Art Class with scarecrow for ShanriLa

The St. Mary Catholic School Art classes,
under the direction of Art teacher Nancy Rendall,
created a scarecrow in the likeness of Vincent Van Gogh
for entry in the ShangriLa scarecrow contest.
“Vincent Van Scarecrow” will be on display along with
an “El Dia de los Muertos” scarecrow from the Spanish classes
at ShangriLa from October 19 through November 15.

Catholic Daughters Contest winners in 2008

6th Grade Language Arts students
read to the younger students.

The sixth grade language arts class created a Halloween mask
and wrote a “How To” paper based on their creation.
Once the assignment was completed, the class took it one step further.
They wanted to read Halloween stories to Sister Sharon’s class.
They chose books from the library, made treat bags and placed safety hints in each one.
The first-grade class enjoyed the stories and the treats.
All in all what started out as a writing project became a fun activity for all involved.
